Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes patients to lose skin pigment in patches all over the body. Vitiligo happens when melanocytes, which are skin cells that produce skin pigmentation, are attacked by the immune system and destroyed, causing affected patches of skin to lose their color.
